Kevin Parrish has told KSN he is looking to bring in some fresh faces to supplement his roster at the Invicta Dynamos.
Two defeats in the past week were followed up with a resounding 10-2 win over Solent & Gosport at the Silver Blades Ice Bowl in Gillingham on Sunday night.
Parrish was without certain key players for Sunday’s game at home with Andy Smith, Tim Smith, Harrison Lillis and Callum Fowler all missing for the Dynamos.
With the quartet missing, Parrish told KSN how he was let down by one of the players and that could spell the end of his Dynamos career:
“There are a couple of issues that need to be sorted out and hopefully that will get sorted this week. I knew Andy Smith wasn’t going to be with us and it is understandable as it was his Dad’s 60th birthday.”
“He told me at the start of the year, so that’s fair enough. I didn’t know one guy wasn’t going to be with us for the weekend until Saturday afternoon when we got to the rink and that’s not good enough.”
“We need to train as a team, we need to play as a team and if we’re going to do that we need to be a unit and if you can’t commit, then sorry you have got to go.”
“I’m looking at making a couple of changes and I need to strengthen in certain areas. I’ve got a couple of guys up north who are looking for me as there are not too many guys down this way at the moment that are making moves.”
“There are a couple of guys in Elite League teams that are sitting on the bench that aren’t getting much ice time and want to improve themselves, so they will get looked at by more EPL clubs if they have a good year down here with me.”
Despite looking, Parrish admits it has been harder than expected to get fresh faces into the club:
“I had one guy turn me down last week who promised me he was coming after the Chelmsford game.”
“He said he had sorted things out with his club at the time, but he text me to say he wasn’t coming. That’s twice he has done that to me this year, so there won’t be a third offer!”
Putting the defeats to Chelmsford Chieftains and Wightlink Raiders behind him, Parrish reflected on a weekend that saw the side lose 5-3 and win 10-2:
“A win’s a win and coming off the back of two losses against two top teams it was a good result. We should be beating Chelmsford at home.”
“We had a bad day at the office and went back to our bad old ways last week and against the Isle of Wight we took some unlucky bounces. I couldn’t fault the effort and the commitment the boys put it, but we just couldn’t get a result.”
“I’m glad we bounced back with a win. We had a chat before the game and we said we didn’t want to give them any respect.”
“They haven’t got anything to lose and you have to pat them on the back for not coming to us and trying to shut up shop. They play the game the right way and unfortunately they are one of those teams that haven’t got enough behind them, but they are in the league and you have to respect them.”
The Dynamos will now be looking to build on the win on Sunday with a victory against Milton Keynes Thunder in Gillingham on Saturday evening with Parrish telling KSN this weekend could define their season if they want to be challenging for honours:
“We have got another busy weekend next weekend and it’s going to be tough here against Milton Keynes and they are coming off a loss against Gosport the other weekend so their coach will be looking at a reaction from them.”
“We have got to be prepared for Milton Keynes on Saturday and Chelmsford on Sunday and we will be training hard this week to make sure the boys are going to be up for it.”
“We have to claw back a game against Chelmsford. We are making it hard for ourselves and we need to make sure we are winning our home games. It’s a four point, must win both weekend for us this coming weekend.”
“Let’s not play catch up all year, let’s get these points now and be up there come the end of the season.”
